What to write in a new job card

12 lines you can use as they are. Change a word so it sounds like you — a borrowed sentence in your own handwriting still reads as yours.

Le righe
  • You wanted this one specifically for four years.
  • Sending this at week six, when everyone else has stopped asking how it's going.
  • Congratulations on Meridian.
  • Take this to the break room in week three and you'll be everyone's favorite by Friday.
  • You'll be fine by March. Everybody is bad at a new job in February.
  • Congratulations. They interviewed a lot of people and picked correctly.
  • New badge, new commute, same you. Good luck Monday.
  • For Sunday night, which is the worst part of a first week.
  • Nobody knows what they're doing for the first ninety days. Nobody.
  • Congratulations. Don't fix anything in the first month, however tempting.
  • You held out for the right one. That took nerve.
  • Glad it's done and glad it's this one.

If you only remember one thing

Short and specific beats long and general. “I still think about you driving me to the airport at five in the morning” does more work than three sentences of sympathy, because only you could have written it.
