What to write in a get well card

12 lines you can use as they are. Change a word so it sounds like you — a borrowed sentence in your own handwriting still reads as yours.

Le righe
  • No update required. Just so you know somebody's thinking about the 14th.
  • Six weeks is a long time to be horizontal.
  • Don't write back. I'll get news from Marcus instead of bothering you.
  • For whoever is doing your dishes this month.
  • Thinking of you. That's the whole message.
  • I'm not going to ask how the scans went. Tell me if you want to.
  • Sending this for week three, when everyone else has gone quiet.
  • You don't have to be brave in this house.
  • Heard about the surgery. Landing this before, not after, when you'll be useless.
  • I'll be at the same number all month and I'll pick up.
  • Nothing to do here except get through it.
  • Feel however you feel about this. Nobody's grading it.

If you only remember one thing

Short and specific beats long and general. “I still think about you driving me to the airport at five in the morning” does more work than three sentences of sympathy, because only you could have written it.
