What to write in a thank you card

12 lines you can use as they are. Change a word so it sounds like you — a borrowed sentence in your own handwriting still reads as yours.

Le righe
  • You drove to Oakland at 5am on a Tuesday. I haven't forgotten.
  • Nine days is a long time to look after somebody else's dog.
  • This is late and I know it's late. Thank you for June.
  • I would have been sunk on the 3rd without you.
  • No favor attached to this one. Just thank you.
  • You said it was nothing. It wasn't nothing.
  • Thank you for sitting in that waiting room with me for five hours.
  • You covered my shift twice and never brought it up once.
  • I owe you, and I'm aware that you'll never collect.
  • Thank you. Specifically, thank you for the part where you didn't make it a thing.
  • You showed up. That's rarer than people admit.
  • For the week you gave me back.

If you only remember one thing

Short and specific beats long and general. “I still think about you driving me to the airport at five in the morning” does more work than three sentences of sympathy, because only you could have written it.
